Hispanic Studies Trujillo Scholarship

Hispanic Studies Advisory Board Trujillo Study Abroad Scholarship
For College of Charleston’s Program in Trujillo, Spain - Spring 2023

This full scholarship covers the entire program fee and is a financial-needs-based award that will be granted to one undergraduate student at the College of Charleston to study abroad in the Department of Hispanic Studies’ spring 2023 program in Trujillo, Spain.  This award will NOT be transferable, and if granted it must be used solely for study abroad as stipulated. This award is competitive, and special consideration will be given to declared Spanish majors, the applicant’s academic record, and extracurricular activities related to Hispanic Studies. To determine the applicant’s financial need, the selection committee will consider the applicant’s personal statement (see below) and consult with the College of Charleston’s Office of Financial Assistance and Veteran Affairs.

Program Highlights:

Trujillo, Spain is located in the Extremadura region of Spain, southwest of Madrid, about 60 miles from the border of Portugal. This program offers students the opportunity to study with faculty from CofC while abroad in Trujillo, Spain. Students are immersed in Spanish language and culture through living with experienced host families. Some Spanish courses are taught by a local faculty from the Universidad de Extremadura. Classes are held at the Coria, a 15th century restored convent, from Monday to Thursday providing students long weekends to explore Trujillo, the Extremadura region, and Spain […]. During the semester, students as a group will take cultural program excursions to Cáceres‎, Mérida, Córdoba, Granada, Madrid, Sevilla, and Toledo. The courses offered are actual College of Charleston classes, therefore students will earn grades just as they would if they were offered on campus. Grades will factor in the student’s GPA.  (Source: https://international.cofc.edu/study-abroad/cofctrujillospain.php)
